Nicholas Lusic Obituary

Oct 21, 1952 - May 8, 2023 It is with our broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Beloved Husband, Father and Dida (Grandfather), Nicholas (Nick) John Lusic, on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the age of 70. Nick was a humble, pillar of strength in our lives and the lives of many others in San Pedro. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Born the second of three sons to Ivo and Radmila Lusic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Oct. 21, 1952, he and his family settled in San Pedro in 1960. He attended 15th St., Dana Jr. High, San Pedro High and Cal Poly Pomona. Through the years, he was honored with numerous awards for his athletic accomplishments in both baseball and basketball. Nick married his one and only love, Kristine Spence on October 9, 1976. Together they raised their 3 loving children, Nick(45), Ryan(42) and Andria (39). Nick loved coaching his kids and others in both baseball and softball, where he left an impact in many of their lives. Two of his most memorable accomplishments were coaching the 1989 Eastview All Star team all the way to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, and being co-inducted beside his brother, George, into the San Pedro High School Hall of Fame in 2014. In recent years, some of his proudest moments were watching his grandchildren in their sports activities, while of course, still coaching from the stands. Nick devoted his life to working hard for his family. He owned an Industrial Painting Company for many years, before becoming a proud, dedicated ILWU Local 13 member over 25 years ago. In the most recent years, Nick worked as a clerk for Local 63. He loved his job and all the wonderful friendships he made while working on the docks. Nick is survived by his loving wife, Kris, 3 children, Nick, Ryan and Andria (Steve) Kordic, 7 Grandchilden, Karly, Steven and Kelsey Kordic, Camryn and Kendall Lusic and Niko and Nika Lusic, brothers Mike (Roseann) Lusic, George (Sharon) Lusic, sister in law, Patty (Chris) Davis, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family members. Viewing in the chapel will be Sunday, May 21 4:30-8:30pm. Funeral Service Monday May 22nd at 11:00 a.m. Both at Green Hills Memorial Park.

Kris, Mike, George and families:
Everyone at Green Hills today could tell you a story about Nick, and that's because Nick had a talent for making friends and sharing stories. He was always happy to take a few extra minutes to listen or reminisce. Nick was engaging; he had a good memory and he was sincere. It's no wonder he had so many friends. He will be dearly missed. We pray you and for your loss.

To Kris, and All the Lusic and Kordic Family very very sorry for your sad and terrible loss.. life is very unfair and unfortunately bad things can and do happen to good people Nick was Great people! Nick was not only a great friend and person to my family He was a great husband, Father, Brother , Grandpa (Dida),Uncle etc to all who he came across. He had a heart of gold and always went out of his way to make my family and others feel welcomed. He loved watching all his grandkids play and excel in sports and other events even came to watch my sons play baseball at Eastview All stars that´s just the type of person he was! He was a man of a few words and sometimes a man of a lot of words. But He was also sneaky funny and always made me laugh So glad we got to spend those times together and make those memories. Nick and Kris also Two of the most generous people I know always willing to treat everyone that was there whether u were family or not! It´s not too often you live 70 plus years in one town and have so many friends and people that loved you and enjoyed being around you as much as Nick did. It´s also very rare you leave this earth not having any enemies but Nick managed to do both. You will be sorely missed especially by Kris your kids, grandkids brothers and all Family and all of us fiends! Rest in Paradise buddy!

Shocked to hear of Nick's sudden passing and do not have the words to express how much he will be missed by friends and family. Have known him for many years. Since Jeff's athletic club and playing ball with and against him on the court and ball field, also lucky enough to have worked with him.
Super athlete and even better person
Heart felt condolences to Kris, George and their families
You will be missed Nick

Kris & Lusic Family,
We were profoundly overwhelmed with grief and sadness when learning of Nick´s tragic passing!
Suffice to say Nick was a most wonderful person and special friend (since the age of nine), and indubitably a great husband, father and grandfather.
Memories are so many, but near the top would be 1. Playing Pop Warner Football with Nick and I co-captains (Nick as QB, and me on defense) and being temporarily kicked out of the league our first year for fighting (along with our coaches, friends and parents racing out of the stands) after an unfair loss - it was wild typical San Pedro style; and 2. Flying to Philadelphia, PA as Calif State Biddy Basketball Champs at 12 years old, and while losing to bigger teams around the country, we fought hard while being our typical mischievous San Pedro selves :-).

I´ve arranged for a Mass in Nick´s memory and honor at the main Alter of St. Peter at St Peter´s Basilica in Vatican City by a dear Monsignor friend (who happens to lead Pope Francis´ Legal Office, and will forward the Mass Card upon receipt.

Elaine and I extend our most heartfelt condolences, as we pray for the good repose of Nick´s Soul and home in Heaven - may He RIP.

San Pedro and the world will miss Nick Lusic. He touched many lives by the way he lived. Nick was good and decent man to his core. His intelligence, humility, caring and sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met. I offer my heartfelt condolences to Kris, George, Mike and families, to those he loved and to those who loved him. Our hearts are broken today, but love is eternal; he lives on in the lives of his children and grandchildren and to all who were honored to call him "friend."

And, yes, he was perhaps the best all-around athlete in the history of a San Pedro community that produced many.

Heaven has another Saint.
