Raphael Mota Obituary
Raphael was born in Wilmington, CA on October 24, 1927 to Marcelino & Severa Mota; with his family by his side, Raphael, was called to the Lord on January 5, 2017 in Harbor City, CA. He attended Banning High School until he went into the US Army. He married Sara Ochoa at Holy Family Church in Wilmington in 1948, where they lived and raised nine children. He worked for US Borax in Wilmington for 42 years as a lube mechanic and utility operator where he was part of the 20 Mule Team. After retiring he took up a new job, Hall and Canteen Manager at the VFW Post 2967 in Wilmington for 25+ years where you could always find him. While he and Sara raised their family he would always be involved with all school events, sports teams and performances and a very active member of many organizations in Wilmington. He was a devoted family man, coach, sports enthusiasts who was always charitable and generous with his time. He loved life! He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Mota; his parents, Marcelino and Severa Mota; sisters, Dolores Palumbo, Josephine Dominguez, Catalina Mota; and brothers, Marcial, Anastacio and Jose Mota. Surviving him is his six sons, Ralph (Bonnie), Steve (Kathy), David (Veronica), Robert (Debra), Lenard (Beth), Richard (Cecilia); and his 3 daughters, Christine (Manny) Padilla, Patricia (Fernando) Remedios, and Anna (Shamir) Sookhoor. He leaves his legacy on this earth through his 27 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving him is his brother, Pete Mota; and many nieces, nephews, friends and his loving companion Armida Graham. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 5 to 9 p.m., at Funeraria Del Angel Wilmington Mortuary, 1640 N. Avalon Blvd., Wilmington, CA. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. also at the Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass is on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1011 East "L" Street, Wilmington, with interment to follow at Wilmington Cemetery, 605 East "O" St., in Wilmington. Our condolences to the entire family. Mr. Mota was a very kind neighbor for 39 years. We will miss him, he would always come walking by everyday, stop and talk. We loved Ralph, and Sara, now they are together in heaven watching over their loved ones. Rest in peace Mr. Mota, you will be missed.
