Richard Granger

1955 - 2021

Jan. 12, 1955 - Apr. 8, 2021 On April 8, 2021, in Altadena, CA, at the age of 66, Rich Granger departed this world. He was with people he loved and who loved him dearly. Rich joined the Wilmington-Carson YMCA board of directors while a senior at Carson High School. As a UCLA student, Rich was the President of the Armenian Student Association. Rich's career included nonprofit management and education. As a teacher in LAUSD, he mentored hundreds of students and many colleagues. Music was in his blood. As a teen, Rich played piano to silent movies at Shakey's Pizza and taught piano at his family's business, the Gray School of Music in San Pedro. Rich often went to see his sons' band play and walked with them in the Armenian March for Justice. Rich and his wife Jill, visited Major League ballparks, museums, and iconic restaurants where Rich always overtipped. He hated cheapskates. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jill, sons, Chris and Ryan, brothers Steve and Jim, extended family, and countless friends. Relationships were Rich's treasure.
