Robert Bell, M.D. Obituary

Dr. Bell was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on August 11, 1918 and died June 14, 2010. Robert attended secondary school in Danielson, Connecticut and was a graduate of Brown University and Boston University Medical School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944 to 1946 and later distinguished himself as an Army captain and physician with NATO in Germany and France from 1950 to 1952. Upon return from Europe he set up a private practice in Osterville, Massachusetts with his office based in the family home. In 1958, Dr. Bell and his family moved to the Palos Verdes Peninsula where he fell in love with Southern California and its mild climate. Initially, he was one of the original partners of the Redondo Beach Medical Clinic. Dr. Bell continued to practice medicine well into his 70s. He was a great sports enthusiast and an avid skier and golfer. After retirement he enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and volunteering as a team doctor for the Peninsula High School Football Team. Dr. Bell is survived by Nancy, his loving wife of 63 years; his sons, Robert, Jr. and his wife, Linda; son, Richard and his wife, Liz; daughter, Pamela and her husband, Roger. Additionally, there are five grandchildren: Vanessa Bell, Robin and Rachel Rowland and Brian and Laura Bell. The family would like to thank all of Dr. Bell's caregivers, nurses and doctors for their compassionate care. The family would also like to thank all the supportive neighbors and friends who helped so much during this difficult time. A family gathering is pending to celebrate his life and memory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation 115 Broadway - 13th Floor, New York, NY 10006 or through their website lymphoma.org.

Dr Bell was the Feland family doctor.Dr Bell delivered all 5 of us kids and most of our cousins. I'm thankful to have known him.

July 5, 2010

we were patients of the wonderful DR, BELL for several years. He delivered four of my children and also followed them as they grew. I was so blessed to have him as my Dr. and was heartbroken when he stopped delivering babies. He kept on seeing my family and I will never forget the loving care he showed to them. I know that he now rests in Heaven.

Nancy, I am deeply saddened by your loss. Though I met your beloved Robert only once, I found him to be kind, good-humored and intelligent and I know he'll be missed by all who knew him.

My parents moved to Torrance in 1952 and became patients at Redondo Beach Medical, where they were blessed to have Dr. Bell and Dr. Halasey as their physicians. In 1988, I brought my baby into to see Dr. Bell, he immediately confirmed my fears that she had brain damage and it's cause. He was genuinely sorry for my baby and I. My family will miss him very much.
