Vicki Griffith Obituary

June 10, 1945 - May 15, 2019 Vicki passed away unexpectedly at the UCI Medical Center in Orange California due to an aggressive form of blood cancer with family and friends at her side. She was a longtime resident of Garden Grove, California. She was born in Los Angeles to Russell David Griffith and Evelyn Griffith, lived her early life in Inglewood and attended San Marino School for Girls for junior high as a boarding student. She graduated from Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach. She started college at CSULB and then El Camino College. Wanderlust and curiosity overtook her and she moved to the Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco and later to Berkley. She attended two different colleges in the bay area while working as an eligibility counselor for social services for Alameda County. Ultimately she moved to Eureka, California to attend Humboldt State College where she graduated with BA in English. One of her life's big adventures was a trip to Europe where she and a friend took a six month overland bus tour from England to Goa in India to visit a friend and a return trip to France. After a few years in Eureka she decided to return to Southern California to attend USC's School of Library Science. She graduated with a MLS degree. She worked as a librarian for Alan Hancock Foundation at USC for two years and then for CSUF. After budget cutbacks she obtained a job with Orange Department of Social Services as an eligibility supervisor for social service. She was an avid longtime fan of the LA Dodgers and was devoted to her various cats through the years. After retiring she began taking classes at CSULB, OLLI with special interest in Irish culture, Tai Chi and Shakespeare. She was predeceased by her parents and longtime companion Richard Sutter. She is survived by her brother Brian and his wife Faith, nephew Sean and niece Carrie. Also good friends Tryal and Ossie Edmundson. She was godmother to their two children Grace and Jonathan. Vicki will be missed, but the memory and impact of her kindness and compassion will live forever. At her request no services were held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for family, friends and neighbors.

This is so difficult to accept. Vicki was a great friend and mentor to so many of us who worked with her, even after we moved on. Her knowledge and passion for learning were clear to anyone who interacted with her, but her wisdom, humor, and perspective were even greater. So many great memories...

Rest In Peace, our dear Vicki.

My sincerest and heart felt condolences to all of Vicki's Family. I had the great pleasure of working for Vicki and eventually as a peer. She changed my life and made a significant impact in a lot of other lives. She served our community with dignity, ethics and pride. She was a teacher, a mentor, a shoulder to cry on and my own personal encyclopedia about life. She was humble, cultured, intelligent, witty and had an amazing sense of humor. I disappointed her many times but she never gave up on me and she always brought out the best in me. Today, I am the professional, the man and the father I am in great deal because of her. Because she believed in someone I didn't even know existed. I owe you so much and I am so grateful that you were in my life. I will forever cherish you and miss you. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I loved you dearly, Vicki.
