Barbara Cole Obituary

Barbara Cole (nee Born) passed away on June 18, 2016, having surpassed her cancer prognosis by nine months. She may have been petite in stature, yet she was strong in spirit. Love is the word that best describes Barbara. She passionately and deeply loved those around her, and strove to make sure everyone felt her love. She prayed daily for those who needed help and laughed easily with her friends. She gave generously of her money and her time. Barbara also loved everything she did. For many years, she worked at the White Horse Gallery on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. Later, when she became a Certified Gemologist, she sold gold and diamond jewelry at Meyers Jewelers. She took great pride in finding the perfect diamond for an engagement ring or birthday necklace, believing in the quality and personality of each piece. Barbara was an avid collector of Native American baskets and turquoise jewelry, different types of dolls, and leaves she found while on one of her many walks. Those who knew her well, understood Barbara's love was deepest for the Lord. Through her work with children at various local churches, and her earnest support for Compassion International, she felt God was giving his love to each child through her. Barbara was born on July 7, 1941, in Chicago Illinois, the daughter of May Born and May's first husband, Edgar Hughes. She was raised in Freeport, Illinois and moved to Boulder, Colorado with her then husband Trent, and her two daughters, Bonnie and Kim, in 1965. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Richard Born. She is survived by her daughters Bonnie Cole and Kim Cole; her brother Charles Born and his family; her brother Richard Born's family, all of her "family in law", her doll club family, and her friends and fellow parishioners at First Presbyterian Church, which she considered her second home. Thank you to all of the caregivers at TRU Community Care and Right at Home, for you made her journey with cancer much easier. She loved you all. The memorial service will be held in late August, at First Presbyterian Church. Please call Bonnie (970-376-2490) for details. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church. " But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." -Isaiah 40:31King James Version (KJV)

Barb was my classmate at Freeport High School. She was a very sweet girl and a good student. I always admired her. Sending prayers for comfort to the family she loved so dearly.

How do you spell l-o-v-e-ly? Barbara Born Cole, with whom I spent many happy hours playing at her house and always thinking how generous and kind she was. Kaliopee "Topy" Fiske

Barb was and is such a sweet soul. We shared many happy times laughing and sharing our love of Native American art. She was loved and will be missed.
