David Warwick Obituary

David Irwin Warwick, 64, died suddenly Dec. 6. He was the son of Constance Bragdon Sawyer and James Walter Warwick. Born June 8, 1952, in Alamogordo, N.M., he grew up in Boulder, attending Washington Elementary, Baseline Junior High and Boulder High schools. He spent his senior year in Italy, graduating from the Scuola di Firenze. In 1982, he moved to Austin, Tex., where he later earned bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Texas. He was an accomplished cook, blues guitarist and wordsmith. In writing or speech, jest or argument, his phrases sparkled. His family will miss his brilliant mind and keen perception. He is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Sherri Riley Warwick, and daughter, Naomi Riley, both of Austin; his mother, now of Seattle; his stepmother, June Pellillo Warwick of Boulder; his father's third wife, Susan Liberty-Warwick of Fresno, Calif.; five siblings and their spouses - Sarah Warwick Charlock (Tom) of Newport News, Va.; Rachel Warwick (Doug Zeiler) and Joel McCulloch (Peggy King) of Seattle; Walter Warwick (Cathy Chittum) of Boulder; and Julia Warwick (Eric Cutler) of Silverthorne - and five nieces and nephews. He is also mourned by his aunt, Jeanne Warwick Ransome of Windsor, Ont.; his cousins, Susan Ransome Wright (Paul) of San Marcos, Calif., and Kathy Ransome (Frank Berends) of Detroit; and their children. He will also be sorely missed by his wife's guide dogs, Hanford and Harley. A memorial is planned in Boulder on June 8. Details will be announced later. Memorial donations may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, P.O. Box 3950, San Rafael, Calif. 94912-3950.

I am deeply saddened to learn of David's death. I was at the Scuola di Firenze with David (and his friend Frank) from the fall of 1969 until the Spring of 1970. I had somehow thought I'd reconnect with David after College, or after marriage, or after children, or after our children left and returned, and life just kept happening. I retired last week - and saw this notice when I tried to find David. This is really unfair on so many levels.
I have some pictures of David ( long hair, guitar in hand, even posing) I would like to send to his family. If there is an address, I will send them immediately.
I am so, so sorry to learn that we have lost yet another artist.
