George Antimary

1939 - 2015

George Vincent Antimary Jr passed away from this life on Oct. 23, 2015. George was born Dec. 15, 1939 in Blue Island, Illinois to George SR and Virginia Antimary. George was born in to an extended Italian family with many aunts, uncles, cousins that were his support system growing up on the south side of Chicago. George proudly served in the US Army Reserves, being honorably discharged in 1963 . George was always passionate and an ardent union supporter as a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the International Assoc. of Machinists. He was concerned about improving the lives of his union brothers and sisters often assuming leadership roles and contributing to negotiating committees, as well as helping union members with their concerns. Having a life time love of cars, he was part of the early pioneers of hot rods and drag racing in the Midwest. He and his neighbor friends and cousins would use whatever they could find in junk yards and in their garages to create custom hot rods and dragsters. He was part of the crew that designed and drove one of the first rear engine rail dragsters (he claimed the first) ever in the sport, because they were pioneering this new type of racing. It gave him the opportunity as a young man to spend time with drag racing legends like "Big Daddy" Don Garlits. George took great pride in his family and home. Always offering to support his children, whether it was fixing vehicles, repairing houses or giving endless advice usually in a loud and clear and relentless voice. George was preceeded in death by his parents and in laws Arthur and Evelyn Mosser, and the love of his life, his wife Carol Antimary. He is survived by his three children Steven Antimary, Kerri Antimary, Christopher Antimary, daughter in-law Joy Antimary and one granddaughter. No services are planned at this time. The family will be having a celebration of life at a later date.
