I just learned today of George's passing from my sister and read his obituary. What a great guy he was! I had the fortune of growing up two doors from his home in Needham, MA and knowing his family, then going to college in Chicago at the same time George was living there, and then in Denver while George lived in Colorado Springs and Boulder. We spent a lot of time together at his tree farm in Wisconsin splitting wood, cross country skiing, and remodeling his farm house; at his apartment on the Near North side of Chicago; and at his home in Boulder. I also enjoyed many bike rides with George in the foothills of Boulder and ski days on the Colorado slopes. I greatly enjoyed his company and friendship, he will be missed! Chip Melick, Denver, CO

I just saw the mention of George's death in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine that I just received. I can honestly say that George is the reason that I went to Dartmouth. In the spring of 1989, he presented the Dartmouth Book Award to me in a ceremony at Burnsville High School. He gave me his business card and offered to spend some time with me if I was interested in learning more about Dartmouth. I accepted his offer a few days later, and he spent an hour or two with me after school one day in his office talking passionately about the school that he loved so much. Fast forward 10 months or so later after a summer trip out to see the campus, and I received in my own acceptance from Dartmouth to become part of the class of 1994.
My path in life was made special because of a simple kindness from George reaching out to a high school kid. May he rest in peace.

George and I were pommel horse specialists on the Dartmouth gymnastics team from 1969-71. He was also a dedicated skier at our Sunday "practices" at the Skiway. May he rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him.
