John Benedetti Obituary

John Benedetti, of Louisville, CO passed away on April 3, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer. John was born on February 11, 1950 in Walsenburg, CO to Charlotte and John Benedetti Sr. John is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children, Jeni Benedetti, Justin Benedetti (Nicole), Gina Edwards (Ryan), and Alisa Benedetti; brother, Paul Benedetti (Pam); sister, Jackey Ugolini (Bill); nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Vivienne Benedetti. John attended St. Mary High School in Walsenburg (class of 1968) and the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he secured his life-long passion for the Buffs. In 1979, John joined RallySport Health and Fitness Club in Boulder and met the front desk manager who soon became the love of his life. Sherry and John enjoyed many racquetball games and tournaments together. John eventually became club pro, was sponsored by Head, and was ranked 1st in his age group by the Colorado Racquetball Association. John and Sherry were married on August 21, 1982 and celebrated 40 years of marriage this past year. And life with John was NEVER boring! With degrees in business and economics, John worked in real estate, finance, and banking for more than 30 years. He later became a bank and HOA investigator for the State of CO until his retirement. John was also an avid sports fan, particularly of the Broncos, Avalanche, Rockies, Nuggets, and any team his kids were playing on. He was known for his grilling, homemade pasta, and delicious spaghetti sauce. He was an avocational archeologist, spending many hours artifact hunting in Southern Colorado. He loved the outdoors (hiking, camping, fishing, birding, gardening), relished many a good novel, and was the best Trivial Pursuit partner ever. John was passionate about the Louisville community and contributed countless hours coaching sports, serving on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and volunteering for many projects, festivals and parades. In 2019, John was honored with the Chamber's Lani Melvin Special Recognition Award for his dedication. As evidenced by the abundance of emojis in his texts, John treasured his family most of all. He was a proud husband, dad, brother, uncle, and (grand) Papa John. He never let his diagnosis and physical disability dampen his optimism, squelch his humor, nor diminish his enthusiasm. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 11 in Boulder. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Samantha Remington Angel Heart Foundation, providing financial support to help patients in critical and life-threatening need. Visit sammyangelheart.com to make a donation. John Benedetti will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on forever.
