John Myers Obituary

John David Myers, Jr., 48, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home in Pleasant Hill, California. John, who went by his middle name "David" until he finished college, was born in Boulder to John D. Myers, Sr. and Dorothy L. Myers. As a child John was a Boy Scout, and liked to go backpacking, hiking, skiing, and bicycling. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1982 and from the University of Denver with a degree in Accounting in 1987. After graduating from college John took a job as a financial analyst with Liberty Mutual in Tyler, Texas, subsequently transferring to Dallas in 1989. In 1990 John moved to the city of Martinez in Northern California where he worked for Chevron as a financial analyst for the past 23 years. He attended graduate school at California State University East Bay where he earned an MBA. John spent part of 2004 on temporary assignment for Chevron in Moscow, Russia. A few years after returning from Russia he moved to Pleasant Hill, where he put his energies into renovating his house, turning it into a beautiful home. John enjoyed traveling, hiking, cooking, gardening, and preserving the produce from his garden. He was a kind, caring, and thoughtful person with a great sense of humor. He was especially adored by all of the children in his extended family. John is survived by his parents John and Dorothy Myers, his sisters Jane Myers (Mark Nass) and Charlotte Parker (Alan), his brother Tom Myers (Tracy), and nephews Sam and Matt. A funeral mass officiated by Father Marcus Medrano will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 29 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Boulder. A luncheon in the church hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org), of which John was a supporter.

Thank you John for sharing your life and laughter with me. I thought of you often this past year and I miss your companionship. The memory of you has influenced me to focus more on friends and family, knowing that at any moment life can change.

It's summertime, so wherever you are, I hope the sun is shining on you and your green gardens.

My late condolences to the family. I bought a file cabinet from the Salvation Army store and came across a folder with John's AAA Membership documents. I was about to shred it, but decided to try and find the family to see if it's something you might need. If possible, please contact me at 925-766-3248

My deepest sympathy goes to John's family at this difficult time.
I first met John in 1990 when I interviewed him for a position with Chevron and I worked with him in several of his Treasury positions over the years including working on foreign exchange and insurance. John was a great guy to work with who always tried to do his best and have fun. We have lost a great colleague and friend much too soon. John, rest easy, you will be missed by many.

John you will live in my heart and prayers forever. I so enjoyed our friendship and will never forget all of our discussions about landscaping, gardening, canning, and decorating. Your home turned out so amazingly beautiful. Thanks so much for helping me learn new things at Chevron and for our trip to the consignments stores where I finally found the perfect TV armoire! Miss you buddy, rest in peace.
