Judith Symons Obituary

Judith (White) Symons, RN, of Boulder, CO, was born on November 3, 1936, in Kansas City, MO, to the late Robert White and Jean (Bernard) White. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by members of her loving family on the 12th of November after having suffered a stroke the previous December. Her husband of 62 years, Jim, was her primary caregiver throughout this time and was at her side when she slipped away. After receiving their degrees from Illinois College (Judy, an RN degree), Judy and Jim were married in Jacksonville, IL, on November 14, 1959. During the next three and a half years Judy was on the nursing staff at several different hospitals as she accompanied Jim during his service in the U. S. Navy. Also, during this time, Judy became the mother of the first of their three beloved daughters, Tracy (Symons) Smith of McKinleyville, CA; Kelly (Symons) Ketzenbarger of Glenwood Springs, CO; and Carrie Symons of East Lansing, MI. Judith is survived by her three daughters, as well as three granddaughters: Alexandra Smith of Seattle, WA; Jennifer Smith of Sacramento, CA; and Gabrielle Ketzenbarger of Denver, CO. In addition to her daughters, granddaughters, and husband, Judy's two brothers and their wives, Steven White and May Lum of Vero Beach, FL, and John White and D'Alene White of Portland, OR, gathered in Boulder to mourn her passing. Through the years, family travels took the family (Judy as a nurse, Jim as a college professor) to new places of work such as Yankton, SD; St. Paul, MN; Albany, NY; San Antonio, TX; and finally, in 1985, to the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. But beyond their work, Judy and Jim also enjoyed travels to New York City, London, Prague, Moscow, and their favorite place to visit (which they did several times) Hawaii. Judy's vibrant personality, her wit and love of fun, and especially her warm embraces and loyalty to friends as well as family, will never be forgotten by any who came to know and adore her. In memory of our dear Judy, and with her loving spirit, please hold close those you love, now and forever.
