Larry Meile

Larry Jacob Meile was born on June 1, 1940, in Boulder, CO, to parents Larry Jacob Meile, Sr. and Ruby Carpenter Meile. He passed away peacefully on Monday, November 15, at his home in Lafayette, CO, surrounded by his family. His beloved wife, Monika, was his primary caregiver until the end. He was 81. Larry loved Colorado and spent most of his life in Boulder His great grandfather, Louis Meile, homesteaded in Julesburg, CO and after moving to Boulder became one of the first photographers in Boulder, partnering for a short time with another famous photographer, J. B. Sturtevant. Larry attended grade school at Sacred Heart of Jesus where he served as an altar boy at daily Mass. He continued his schooling at Casey Middle School and graduated from Boulder High School in 1958. Larry married the love of his life, Monika Bulawa, on June 4, 1960, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic church in Boulder. He devoted his life in service to others. He retired as a master plumber for the Boulder Valley School district, where he worked for over 36 years. After taking early retirement, he and Monika became devoted members of St. Martin de Porres Catholic church in Boulder. The building and parishioners of St. Martin's became the focal point of their life together, and the couple were permanent fixtures in the church. It was not uncommon to find Larry fixing anything that needed to be fixed, and he selflessly offered assistance to many parishioners who needed a good and knowledgeable plumber. He lovingly donated his time and talent for many years until Alzheimer's forced him to step away from the church he loved so much. Larry is survived by his wife, Monika; his daughter, Debbi; grandson, Drew; and his nieces and nephews in Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Scott; and his sisters, Bobbie, Jeanie, and Kay. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 3300 Table Mesa Dr, Boulder, CO on Wednesday, December 1 at 11 a.m., Father Joseph Tran, presiding.
