Lisa Dumaw Obituary

Lisa Suzanne Dumaw, spiritual seeker, spouse, friend and attorney passed away quietly in the early hours of December 11, 2013. Lisa was the first of two children born to Bruce and Suzanne Dumaw in Marlette Michigan January 2, 1966. She graduated with a B.S. in business (1988) and a B.A. in English (1991) from the University of Michigan followed by a J.D. in law from Cornell (1994).

Lisa practiced law, primarily engaged in venture fund capital work, for most of her professional career. She spent the vast majority of her career with Cooley LLP in Broomfield, Co and the remainder with other firms, including Testa-Hurwitz in Boston, Ma and Wilson-Sonsini in Palo Alto, California.

Lisa's first passion was exploring the natural world wonders, primarily in the south and north west United States, traveling extensively with her spouse in our national parks, national forests and grasslands often accompanied by their dogs, Mica and Coal, and friends. Lisa was an extraordinarily compassionate woman and a loving advocate for wildlife and environmental stewardship. It was through her intense appreciation and love of our nation's wildlands and wildlife that she found herself studying biology at the University of Colorado, and then at Colorado State University, in preparation for a career move to wildlife biology.

Through her study of nature Lisa lived with an acute awareness of the interconnectedness of all living things. Her greatest gift to those who loved her was her unique ability to listen and hear, causing all who engaged with her to feel they'd truly been heard. Her intense focus on the concerns of others caused family and friends to feel important and loved. Lisa developed her natural spiritual gifts especially during her protracted six year battle with cancer. And, her spiritual seeking led her to an intense and deeply enriching spiritual practice in her final year of physical life, preparing herself and all whom she loved for her passing. In the end the most important thing for Lisa was to assure and emphasize the love she had for all of her family and friends.

Lisa is survived by her spouse, Therese Pieper, father Bruce, mother Suzanne, brother Kurtis and his three children, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Respecting her wishes cremation has been performed by Crist Mortuary and no memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made "in honor of Lisa Dumaw" to the charity of the donor's choice.
