Marilyn Hoye Obituary
Marilyn Hoye passed away at age 96 at her Boulder home with two of her children. Marilyn was mentally acute until the end. She was born on June 13, 1925 in Oak Park, Illinois to parents Harry Goelitz and Mary Evans. Harry was the son of German immigrants and was an Olympic decathlete. Mary was a southern belle from Tennessee. Marilyn was the youngest of four children. Marilyn was a natural athlete. She rode horses, swam, and was a competitive tennis player. Marilyn met and married Nicholas Hoye on September 10, 1949. Nick quickly became accepted into the large Goetlitz family and into Oak Park society. Marilyn and Nick began their marriage living in the garage apartment of her parents' home. They moved to the suburb of Northbrook when Marilyn became pregnant. Nick and Marilyn had four children: Leslie, T. Randall (Randy), Timothy, and Carolyn (Care). Nick's marketing job brought the family to Corning, New York where Nick worked for Corning Glass. Marilyn presided over the busy household, cooking, entertaining, and driving her four children to all of their sporting events: swimming, tennis, track, hockey, and golf. Marilyn was the definition of a devoted mom. Her outgoing, ebullient and engaging personality steered the ship of the Hoye household. She was the rock and support for each of her children. Marilyn made sure that the smells of her baking were timed to the children's arrival from school. As Nick was frequently at work or travelling for work, Marilyn joked that she didn't recall even having time to sit down until her youngest child was six. Marilyn and Nick eventually moved to Lewiston, New York and then retired to a cottage at Castle Park, Michigan, where Marilyn summered since the age of five. Nick died at age 63, leaving Marilyn alone for the first time in her life. The resort community at Castle Park was deserted after Labor Day. Always brave and adventurous, Marilyn packed up her Subaru and her two dogs and drove to Boulder where her youngest daughter Care lived and worked. Marilyn fell in love with Boulder. More importantly, Marilyn met and fell in love with a widower from her exercise class, Fred Kemmerling. Marilyn and Fred had a love affair for the ages. They travelled to Mexico, Costa Rica, Aspen, and Hawaii. Marilyn glowed at hearing Fred's name. Fred died a few years ago. Mom remained in her Boulder home surrounded by pictures of Fred, of her four loving children, her five grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren. The hole Mom leaves in her children's hearts is indescribable. Marilyn's spirit made the world a much better place. Marilyn was empathetic, intelligent, fun, talented and so, so kind. Marilyn was an active volunteer in every community in which she lived. She volunteered at the hospital, delivered meals on wheels, and in Boulder was a peer counselor for seniors. She will be missed every day. Marilyn is predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Mary, Bebe, and Harry. She is survived by her children Leslie (Richard) of New York City, Randy (Betty) of Atlanta, Tim of Michigan and Care of Boulder, and her grandchildren: Patrick (Ashley) Hoye and their three children, Hodges Hoye, Annie Beyer Hoye and Isabelle Hoye; Walker (Karen) Hoye; Blake Hoye and Rocky Hoye; and Ellie Enichen. Marilyn was a life-long dog lover. Please consider a donation in her name at the Boulder County Humane Society. A celebration of her life will be held at the Cork restaurant on November 6, 2021.
