Magic Melanie has left the Station Magic Melanie (aka Maish ), world famous in Boulder, has passed by reward of 80 years of time. On Tuesday, December 5th, she was called to the higher stage by her friend and savior who is. Melanie was an Island Girl. Her family (Barnes) was among the last of those who went west. Leaving Valley Forge, PA, they pioneered Palmyra Atoll, an uninhabited American Possession, beyond Hawaii, but of it! She attended school in Maui, where at the 50th anniversary her school mates remembered her! Returning to the homeland she was First Class of Fairview High School, Boulder. Being Miss America 1st Runner Up led to being a Stewardess (a real one) of Pan American World Airways where she toured the world a "new breed of woman" (TV series quote). Training at the Zurich Opera House she married her husband Michael who followed her from Boulder were they had met and formed bonds unbreakable by distance. Chanteuse of Melanie 's Melodies of the Rockies, the Other Woman and the Colorado Song, she was star of stage screen and television, and home. Melanie left Boulder Civic Opera for the high opera of Opera Colorado where she sang with Placido Domingo. She was the "hot soprano" on top of Perry Como's Christmas Tree Special. The beloved Channel 54 of yore featured her "weekly" show. Melanie almost signed that New York Contract, but kept her family instead. She was a sought after Professional Choir Soprano in Denver. Melanie was elected Regent of the Boulder Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR. She led a family of two children and five grandchildren into the 21st century and now beyond. Her children Scott and Lara both live nearby. Scott and Giselle, his wife have three children: Isabella, Katherine, and Caroline. Lara and Trevor, her husband, have two children: Emma and Daisy. Melanie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Michael. Now Mike and Melanie would like to share their secret of 50 years of marriage, two words: "Yes dear." Tokens of parting may be sent to the University of Colorado Music School, Melanie 's Alma Mater.

I was in the Zurich Opera Studio with Melody in the 1970's. She was not only a wonderful coloratura soprano but also an enthusiastic and very delightful person.

When I think of my cousin, Melanie, I think of the most kind, sweet, and truly gifted member of my family. Her mother, Louise, and my mother, Margaret, were more than sisters, they were the best of friends. Melanie and mu sister, Ellen, were very close. I only wish we had lived closer to her and her wonderful family. Melanie was and is so very special.
