Robert Robichaud Obituary

Robert "Robi" Robichaud of Boulder, Colorado, passed away at the age of 65 at the start of this year. Robi was an extraordinary, kind, creative, and adventurous man. He was born in Gardner, Massachusetts to parents Alda and Raymond "Pete" Robichaud and had siblings Helen "Honney" of Miami, Florida, Raymond "Ray" of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Peter "Pete" (Martha Lovett, spouse) of Moscow, Idaho. In his younger days, he bicycled coast to coast across the country three times and through Europe. He made everyone he met feel important and he spread light wherever he went. Robi was a high school teacher for 14 years and taught in four countries including in Ladakh, India. His students loved him as a teacher but even more as a coach. Robi made an incredible impact on the lives of many students. He played basketball semi-professionally in the U.K. and in Luxembourg. Later, he became a Renewable Energy Engineer in wind and solar and worked to make this world a cleaner and safer place for over 20 years. He started a family with Ellen Franconi in Boulder, Colorado, and is father to two children, Mia, and Cooper. Robi always made time for his family and fun with his children. He was an avid and talented skier, runner (Boston Marathon), guitar player, and woodcarver. Robi loved making homemade presents and cards, and he never missed the chance to give a fantastic toast. He was a marvelous storyteller. Robi showed people a beautiful world and made friends across it. He was truly a wonderful soul and will be missed by all who knew him. As Robi would say, "Cheers!"

Dear Robi- I thought of you and Alda as I put her handmade ornaments on the tree this year. And the plant that you gave me is still thriving. Blessings to you and your family.

So sorry to hear of Robi´s death. I am reading this while I am in Spain telling a friend about biking with him in Estes Park in early 90s. I am so sorry for his children. -Maryann Buehler

I met Robi during a wind project in 2012-2013. Although our time was limited, he made a great impression on me and gave me a memorable compliment that I've made sure to pass along to others when the situation arises - "I really like the way you work". I came to search his whereabouts to tell him this, when I found this memorial page. It saddens me that we lost touch, and I send my deepest condolences to those family and friends who were closest to Robi. I see from other messages that he was well loved, and shared his light with all fortunate enough to be in his path. Rest well Robi, you are remembered and loved and I will continue to share your light. The world needs it.

Robin and I are so very very sad to hear of the passing of our dear friend "Robi". He and I taught together in the 80's and maintained a friendship to this day. He and Mia came and spent some time with us this past October at our home in New Hampshire. The night of our marriage, he camped out in the front yard with our daughter. It is something she has very fond memories of. Rest in Peace Robi......

So sorry to hear of Robi's passing. He and I were new faculty together at NMH and I loved working with him, in fact, I was sad when he left NMH in 1992. We lost touch but happy to see pictures of his two children and his smiling face again. And funny how we named our sons the same name, as I have a Cooper, too. What a wonderful man. He will be missed by so many.

I am heartbroken but feel fortunate for his friendship. He was intelligent, athletic, adventurous and with a minimalists sensibility. Most importantly he was kind, wise, and loving. Robi made a difference on this planet and will be sorely missed.

Robi has been my landlord for 4 years and I immediately gained a deep admiration and respect for his love of Life, his ability to troubleshoot and fix any problem that arose in his path with his passion for any challenge that appeared in his LifePath. His work ethic matched his incessant delight for this world and his love for his kids was ASTOUNDING!
I feel a deep void & disbelief since his transition and will miss him being in my Life.
I´m happy to support planting more trees on Earth in his name to nurture his existence on Earth into a longer future for his Amazing Spirit

I worked closely with Robi when I worked at NREL. He was a great guy, and I looked forward to reviewing his documents for NEPA requirements. RIP Robi.

Paul and I are so very sorry to hear of Robi's passing. We were fortunate to spend some time with Robi and Mia this past October when they were in the northeast. Robi and I bonded over renewable energy and had great conversations about the subject. He was the inspiration for the installation of 5 utility scale wind turbines at Joint Base Cape Cod. Robi was such an intelligent, caring, and good-natured person and we are going to miss him greatly.
