Steve Hoffer Obituary

Steve Hoffer was born January 30, 1960 in Montreal, Canada and passed peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lafayette, Colorado. He died from complications of dermatomyositis with his devoted family at his side.

Beloved husband of Tina, adoring father of Jazzmin and Sam; brother of Alana, Larry, Andy and Shelley; brother-in-law to Sandi Wong, Rick Wong, Stacy Hoffer, Norm Wolfson, Brenda Joy Lem, and Zohar Shahar; uncle to Tyler, Una, Daavi, Hillary, Nofar and Shaked and son-in-law to Hank Wong.

After studying photography at Ryerson Polytechnical University in Toronto and meeting Tina, the love of his life, Steve followed his brothers to the Boulder, Colorado area, settling in Lafayette.

Steve will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his magnetism, and his service to others. His combined passion for sports and photography was shown through his devotion to photographing youth sports leagues throughout the Front Range. For the past twenty one years his dedication has fostered an endearing record of his community. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Special thanks, for extraordinary and compassionate care, to the nursing staff of the Intensive Care Unit of Exempla Good Samaritan, Kaiser Permanente, Lafayette, Colorado.

Tina: I am a friend of Steve's from his morning stop at the Brewing Market. About 6-8 months he stopped by and said he was fighting an illness…he didn't look good but I thought he would beat it.
His real friend was my little white dog Winston who he had a biscuit for every morning. We would talk about your kids and my grandkids, jazz and his business. I feel I was lucky to have known him, we were buddies. He also knew my family from the soccer fields.
Since his passing many of the Ice Hockey guys mentioned they knew his illness was terminal. All of us that sit outside at the Brewing Market are very sad and shocked.

We are so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Although it's been many years since we've seen Steve and Tina, we had great times with them during the early (and successful) years of the Avs! Steve will be missed and we are sending our thoughts and prayers to Tina, Jazzmin and Sam.

Hey Steven, look at you, giving people a lifetime of smiles! What a gift! To be sadly missed. But it has been 30 some years and I can still remember your friendship and how you made me laugh. That is what will stay with me. Thank you for that.

We are very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He made a big impact on out life. He was very kind and will be missed. His talent will forever be cherished by our family. He took our daughters senior photos the week before she died. He captured her personality in those photos, as well as being her first boss! Also, thank you for the photos that he has taken of Tim's teams over the course of 20 years!! Steve, you will be missed!!!

I will miss Steve's great laugh and sense of humor. We had a lot of fun together keeping score and playing music at the rink. I will always be playing "Guess this band" with him when I'm there. He was an amazing guy, I feel truly blessed to have been able to call him my friend.

Picture day with Steve at Douglass Elementary was always a highlight. He had such a gift with people - upbeat, kind and very professional. He brought out the best in everyone. The children loved him and so did I.

Tina, Jazzmin, and Sam

We are very sad to hear about Steve's passing this morning. He was a wonderful person who was always happy and upbeat. We had him photograph many of the youth sports teams that we coached in Boulder. We always called on Steve because he was so easy and fun to work with and he was excellent at what he did. Additionally he helped us put together a photo plaque for one of the local HS coaches.

He will be greatly missed by many people yet we will always remember his smile, sense of humor, and friendliness.

Our thoughts are with you.

My deepest condolences to the family and a loss of a great individual. In trying to define Steve I remember the 100+ shots of my kids that he made into a fun experience instead of a visit to the dentist. Love ya and will miss ya, you Canuck...
