Steven Peterson Obituary

Steve Peterson of Boulder, CO passed away in his sleep on October 20, 2021. Steve was born November 18, 1954 in Albany, New York to Richard and Anita Peterson. When Steve was 5 yrs old his family moved to Akron, Ohio. Steve graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in Physical Anthropology. In search of adventure and mountains, he moved to Boulder in the spring of 1977. Steve married Jane Swirk Peterson in March of 1984. He earned a doctorate degree in Chiropractic Medicine from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, MO in 1987. Immediately after graduating he returned to Colorado where he was in private practice for 32 years. Steve was a man of unquestionable character and was always eager to help anyone when called upon, or if he simply felt someone needed a hand. Steve opened his heart and his home to 27+ foster children and he volunteered for Bridge House where he faithfully served meals at Community Tables for over 15 years. Steve loved the Beatles, the Broncos, cross- country skiing, soccer, gardening, Great Danes, science fiction, meteor showers and Dr Who. He enjoyed many athletic pursuits with his buddies and he loved coaching kids. He was strong, fast and talented, a formidable athlete and a great coach. He taught himself guitar and learned to read hieroglyphics. Steve loved to travel, sing, walk in the snow, sit by a fire, solve a crossword puzzle and eat. Most of all, Steve loved spending time with his family and friends doing just about anything. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and by his son, Jed C. Peterson. Steve is survived by Jane Swirk Peterson, his spouse of 34 years, his children; Max L. Peterson (Jordan), J. Avery Peterson, Detrick Molina Peterson, Jessie M. Morris (Dave), Leroy D. Alphonse, Danielle R. Windholz, Keelan J Husbands (Leah); three grand children, B. Luke Suitts, Aden V. Windholz and Joseph B. Peterson; his brothers Jim Peterson (Suzi) and Ron Peterson (Lynette), and his brother in law J. Brian Swirk (Tracy). Steve will be greatly missed by everyone; his nephews, cousins and many dear close friends. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Steve's name may be made to the Bridge House, c/o Scott Medina or to Growing Gardens/ Hawthorn Community Gardens.

I have many wonderful memories of cousin Steve. I regret that I didn´t have a deep and meaningful conversation with him the last year of his life. Maybe it would have been wasted but maybe we would have connected. Let this be a lesson to us all to not put off the conversation that might make a difference in a person´s life.
God bless you and comfort you Jane, Max, Avery and Dietrick.

I was very sorry to hear of Steve´s untimely passing. Two of my siblings, Anne and Jim, were friends of Steve growing up in Akron, Ohio. Although I was not close to Steve myself and have no memories to share from that period, I, nevertheless, felt a connection to him and his family in Boulder. I am impressed by Steve´s giving of himself to others during his lifetime. I offer my heartfelt condolences.
