Thomas Stewart Obituary

Thomas "Tom" J. Stewart, 90, passed away surrounded by his loving family at his winter home in Scottsdale, AZ on July 4, 2023. Independence Day is quite fitting for him to leave Earth as he was still "calling the shots" to live his unique lifestyle of defying the odds. He was born on December 18, 1932, in Wichita, KS. He was guided by his Midwestern values throughout his lifetime. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Gloria, his sister Mary Katherine, his 3 children Vince, Pam, and Leisa, 2 granddaughters, Jesica and Carrie, and 5 great grandchildren. In addition are Gloria's 4 children Cindy, Loree, Brad, David, 7 grandchildren and a new great grandson on the way. In his career, Tom achieved great success as a builder of hundreds of custom homes and several commercial buildings. In retirement, his creative mind continued to enjoy remodeling and landscape projects. He was a strong and active man with a passion for quality of life. Tom was a proud man who provided for and protected his loved ones, leaving a lasting impact for generations to respect and honor his unfailing work ethic and honest integrity. Words cannot describe his enthusiastic drive and determination. He was an awe-inspiring gentleman to know is simply an understatement. He was admired for his wisdom, kindness and generosity. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and had a genuine "never met a stranger" nature. A few of his favorite things were: our country, people, blue skies, green grass, sunshine, lakes, hammocks, Mexico, Montana, Kansas, dogs, bicycles, walks, restaurants, ponds, swings, DIY projects, WD-40, classic cars, Phoenix Suns, and not necessarily in that order! Tom is deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will forever and ever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The ceremony will be held in the fall (date TBD) in Boulder, CO. This will provide an opportunity for loved ones to come together, share stories, and pay tribute to a truly special one of a kind man. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations are made to American Cancer Society and/or John Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute in Tom's honor.
