Charles (Sonny) Vernon Kessler, 74, of Connellsville, passed away June 27, 2022.
He was born Aug. 14, 1947, in Connellsville, a son of the late Charles Vernon Kessler and Viola McNamara Kessler.
Sonny was a lifelong resident of Connellsville and a graduate of Connellsville High School with the Class of 1965.
Sonny is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a generator mechanic in Germany from 1966 to 1968. He retired from U.S. Steel Corporation – Irvin Works after 25 years as a union steelworker.
He was a social member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the Sons of Italy, and South Connellsville Firehall.
Sonny is survived by Diane Dunstan, his devoted partner of over 30 years; two daughters, Lori Burrell (and partner Jim Ryan) of Munhall, Pa., and Tracy Kessler (and partner Jim Dougherty) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Diane's daughters Carolyn Dunstan of Normalville, Pa. and Darlene Branstetter of Newport Ritchey, Fla.; two grandchildren, Tyler and Adrienne Bonde of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Carolyn's son, Phillip Basinger, whom he considered a grandson; his sister Sharon Thompson of Connellsville and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by three sisters, Judith Jobes, Carole Costello, and Gloria Kessler.
There will be no public viewing or visitation. A memorial service for Sonny will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being held under the direction of the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St. West Side, Connellsville, (724) 628-9033.
