Edmund J. Minkus, 92, of West Newton, passed away into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021. Born in West Newton on Oct. 29, 1928, he was the son of the late Anthony and Catherine (Patley) Minkus.
Jesus and Salvation was the most important part of his life. He was a fervent Prayer Warrior and enjoyed spending time and sharing stories with his family. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a very active blood donor through the American Red Cross. He loved baseball, especially Stan "the Man" Musial. In June 1988, Edmund retired from the West Newton Post Office. The post office was more than a job to him, it was one of his passions.
He was a fan of Scrabble, crossword puzzles and Jeopardy. He was very proud of his Polish heritage, loved Polkas and enjoyed watching "Molly B." His many qualities included patience, kindness, generosity and integrity.
He is survived by his children, Gregory (Ethel) Minkus of Webster, Teresa Vitigoy of West Newton and Mark (Elizabeth) Minkus of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Christine (Rob), Gregory and Michael Minkus, Michelle (Doug) Trenk, Frank (Abby) Vitigoy, Sarah (Bo) Griffith, Danielle, Hannah and Caitlin Minkus, David (Angela) Seiple, Kevin (Sara) Seiple, Scott (Anna) Seiple and Joel Fox; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Alexis, Lily, Dale and Saben Vitigoy, Isaac and Ruthann Trenk, Adalynn Griffith, Xzavier Farabaugh, Peighton Minkus, Koda and Hermilee Minkus, and Emma, Graylyn and Abram Seiple.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Harden Minkus; infant daughter, Cecelia Minkus; son, Steven A. Minkus; daughters, Mary Catherine Fox, Ruth Ann Prosser and Marcia Jo Minkus-Mills.
Friends will be received on Friday from 4to7 pm. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. with his son, Mark Minkus officiating.
Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery with Pastor Tim S. Lewis officiating.
Following the interment service, military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Perryopolis VFW Post 7023.
A Repast Meal will follow at Hoss's Steak and Sea House in Belle Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Red Cross (www redcross.org).
At the request of the family, everyone attending the visitation and services are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
