Joseph Mance Obituary

Joseph P. Mance, 62, of Delmont, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh with his loving family at his side. He was born July 3, 1950, in Greensburg, a beloved son of Mary Jane DeBartolo and the late Paul F. "Joe" Mance. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn Bortz Mance to whom he was married 41 years; sons, Michael J. Mance (Heather Kosmatine), of Delmont, and Ryan C. (Kristi) Mance, of Schenectady, N.Y.; grandchildren, Camren Michael and Owen Joseph, who referred to him as "Pappy Joe"; two brothers, Chuck (Tammy) Mance, of Murrysville, and Mark (Lynn) Mance, of Bellefonte; and a sister, Carol A. Kunkle (Sonny Halterman), of Mt. Pleasant; and also a niece and nephews; mother-in-law, Lois Bortz, of Delmont; brother-in-law of Bob (Sherry) Bortz, of Derry; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Joseph will also be missed by his special feline friend, Juneau. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John G. Mance and Anna May Lipyance Mance; maternal grandparents, Frank and Frances M. DeBartolo; uncle, Sam F. DeBartolo; brother, Stephen A. Mance; and nephew, Eli F. DeBartolo. He attended Greensburg High School for three years and Mt. Pleasant High School, from which he graduated in 1969 and enlisted in the Navy. Joseph was honorably discharged from the Navy during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Ranger. He was employed for 34 years as a production supervisor with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County at Beaver Run. He was a member and served as an elder for the Delmont Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the former Green Trojan Band of Greensburg. He enjoyed camping and fishing and spending time with his family.
