Harold Frederick Baskin

1920 - 2018

Harold Frederick Baskin passed away Oct. 24, at the age of 98. His passing came just eight months after the passing of his wife, Rosalia Ann Baskin, who died on Feb. 2, at the age of 99. Harold was born in Red Wiing, MN, on March 18, 1920. His parents, George Kirk Baskin and Helena Margaret Heise Baskin, raised their family in Hammond, MN. His sister, Evelyn, and his three brothers, Lawrence, Raymond, and Howard, all preceded him in death. Harold graduated from Wabasha High School and attended Rochester Jr. College. On Aug. 22, 1939, Harold married Rosalia (Sally) Kreucher in Currie, MN. The couple moved to Minneapolis where Harold attended Dunwoody Institute. Harold served in the US Navy at Mare Island Naval Shipyard during World War II. After honorable discharge from the Navy, Harold stayed in California, eventually taking a position as an Estimator at the Fink and Schindler Company, a cabinet-making firm in San Francisco, where he worked until his retirement in 1982. In 1955 Harold and Sally moved to South San Francisco and after his retirement lived in Portland, OR, and Lakeport, CA for a number of years. More recently they moved to Woodland to be nearer to their children and grandchildren. Harold and Sally were avid tournament bridge players for many years, both attaining the rank of Life Master. Harold had many other interests including fishing and raising Wire Haired Pointing Griffon hunting dogs.Harold was a loving father to his seven children, Denis (Patty), Joanne (Richard), David (Judie), June (Craig), Mary (Gene), Carol (Dan), and Linda (Rich). He was also devoted to their 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. A rosary and viewing will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Woodland Funeral Chapel, 305 Cottonwood, Woodland. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Nov. 9, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. He will be interred next to his wife at the Capay Cemetery in nearby Esparto.
