Kabal Singh Gill was born Nov. 25, 1943 in Majari, Punjab (India). He passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 7, 20009, at home surrounded by his immediate family after a 2 1/2-year battle with ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Kabal was the youngest child of Basant Singh and Dhan Kaur Gill. He was the first in his family to immigrate to Canada, arriving in 1970 and residing there until 1978. He and his family moved to California to join two of his brothers in Colusa. He lived in Colusa from 1978 until 1990. He enjoyed a 25-year career at Pirelli Cable before retiring. For the last 18 years he has lived, together with his family, in Woodland.
Kabal is survived by his wife Harbhajan; sons, Jaswant, Rajminder and his wife Harpreet; daughter, Charanjit and her husband Kulvir Sangha; and grandsons, Taran and Raman Gill. He is also survived by his brothers, Gian, Sewa, Sucha, Nihal; and sister, Swaran Kaur. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Udham Dehal.
A funeral service is scheduled for noon, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at the North Sacramento Funeral Home, 725 El Camino Ave., Sacramento.

I am saddened to learn of Kabal's passing. I'm sadder still that to find out so late that I could pay formal respects to him on Dec. 13th.
I'm sure that Kabal is in a better place now, free of the ALS that took him from us far too soon.
