Jan. 14, 1924 - April 30, 2015

Beloved husband and father, Sebastian Felix Sandoval of Woodland, passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 91, surrounded by family on April 30. His death was a result of Alzheimer's disease, which he bravely endured. Sebastian was born Jan. 14, 1924 in Sacramento to Francisco Nicolas Sandoval and Marcellina Gonzales Sandoval. Sebastian lived his early years in Sacramento until they moved to Yolo where he was raised. He attended his primary school grades in both Yolo and Monterey and later at Woodland High School. A World War II veteran, Sebastian enlisted in the the U.S. Army at the age of 17 on Nov. 19, 1942 serving with the 866th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 4, 1946 receiving three Bronze Stars and a Victory Medal and numerous awards. Shortly after returning from the war, he met and fell in love with Marcelina Duarte, they married Dec. 21, 1946 and made their home in Woodland where they raised five children. He was Greens Superintendent of Yolo Fliers Club for 49 years, known as Zeb. Sebastian was Rumsien/Ohlone Indian from Big Sur area and very proud of his Native American Heritage. Participating in several Tribal gatherings; one of which a special dedication ceremony in San Francisco, where he and family members gave a blessing and sang Ohlone songs before naming a baby eagle at the S.F. Zoo. Sebastian was able to return to his native village site and walk the land his ancestors once lived on. Later in life he came to feel great honor and peace to know his family held their first Tribal Ceremony on this very site in honor of the land and his Ancestor's.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marcelina Duarte Sandoval for 68 wonderful years; five children, Marcelina Rita Sandoval, Lydia Bojorquez (Michael), Sebastian Gerald Sandoval (Janis), Nicolas Dino Sandoval (Becky), Magdalene Maria Sandoval; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

What will I miss the most about Sebastian F. Sandoval? I will miss his smile, his loving heart, his "lets see what we can do here attitude...nothing is impossible" I will miss our trips to Costco for hotdogs or going to McDonalds for breakfast, not for the food but for our casual father to son conversations. I miss my dad without a doubt and will love him until I reunite with him as our good Lord has promised. Rest in peace Dad...you were a outstanding role model and father. Your son...Chacho
