Steven Rose Obituary

Steve Rose passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 11, 2020 at his home in Woodland. He had just celebrated his 60th birthday on August 23, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Karen (Hesseltine) Rose; his son, Matthew Rose and daughter, Carolyn (CJ) Rose. Carolyn became a new mother on March 16, to Ryan Matthew Rose-Miller; Steve's first grandchild, just five days after he passed away. He is preceded in death by his father, Bill Rose (Ellis William Rose); his paternal grandparents, Ellis and Jackie Rose; and his maternal grandparents, Dick and Wilma Emmons.After graduating Woodland High School in 1978, he worked in the family business, Rose Valley; growers and domestic and international shippers of honeydew melons. He was in charge of the field work and supervised all the crew. He continued to oversee much of the labor inside the shed where the melons were washed, packed, and prepared for transport. After Steve's father passed away, he worked closely with his brother, Mike Rose, and other long-time employees of Rose Valley.Steve loved teaching his two children how to hunt, fish, and ski. He and Karen lived in the Truckee area for a few years when he was a ski instructor at the Boreal Ridge Ski Lodge. Both Steve and his brother Mike were real hot shots on the slopes! His hobbies, along with hunting and fishing, Steve also took great pride in his garden at home. Steve also has two wonderful sisters, Erin (Rose) Morgan and Marilyn Rose-Rymel who both loved their big bro deeply. Steve also has a large, far-reaching family full of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members who will miss him immensely.Steve was a dedicated member of the Woodland Chapter National Wild Turkey Federation and President of the Woodland Chapter California Deer Association.Steve's Celebration of Life will be held at the Historic Hotel Woodland located at 436 Main Street, Woodland, CA from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19, attendance for Steve's Celebration of Life will respectfully be limited to only his family and close friends. There will be an opportunity to bring up fond memories. Masks are required throughout the duration of the event.

I met Steve in woodland at my old grandmothers home witch was bought by someone steve new he was so fun to no he thought my how to shot a bow but still I needed more help I love the taste of his honey dews he gave me a crazy kitten named 13 I just looked him up to ask about his dews and I see he is no longer living its been years u will be missed Mr. Honey Dew your friend Roof Fandago

Steve was my LT during my training at Alameda County Sherifs department. He was one of a kind and I think of him and his family often He was proud of his family .and he loved them dearly. Karen, I know he is near by you and if you look you will see him in everything you do.

My Cousin Steve was a really good guy. He was always glad to see me when I ran into him in town and at family gatherings. He will be missed but lives on in spirit.
