Thomas Carine Obituary

Jan. 16, 1942 - May 24, 2015

Thomas Dominic Carine, beloved father and grandfather, passed away May 24, at the age of 73 from complications of cancer. "Big" Tom, as he was known to relatives, was born Jan. 16, 1942 in Fort Bragg, CA, to Tom and Grace Carine of Sicily.

After graduation from Fort Bragg High School in 1959, Tom enlisted in the Navy. He served as a Radioman 3rd class aboard the U.S.S. Ranger from 1960-1963. In 1962 he received a Good Conduct Medal for his service. He was also a member of the American Legion.

In 1961 Tom met his wife-to-be, Janice and they married in 1963. Together they moved first to Alameda, then to San Jose, to raise their three children. Tom received his Associates Degree in Social Science from San Jose City College. He and his wife relocated to Woodland in 1988. He worked for Western Electric throughout its various changes into Lucent Technologies for over 30 years until his retirement in 1997.

Tom and his wife, Janice were married for 48 years until her death in 2011.

Tom loved gardening and could often be found in his yard pruning, watering and weeding. He also loved woodworking and many of his creations can be found scattered around his backyard. He enjoyed spending time with his children and four grandchildren. An animal lover, he and his wife were the parents to many "furry" children over the years, and were supporters of several animal charities.

Tom is survived by his three children and their spouses, James and Kathryn Hovagimian, Tom Jr. and Christian Carine, Jeff and Lisa Wiley; four grand-children, Francesca and Armen Hovagimian and Scott and Austin Wiley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services will be held in Woodland.
