Adrienne Marie Donlon CHICAGO, ILL.-Adrienne Marie Donlon, 80, formerly of Saugerties, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 in Chicago, Ill. Born June 8, 1929, in Saugerties; she was the daughter of Paul and Marion Howard Donlon. Survivors include four brothers, Paul of Saugerties, Michael of Basking Ridge, N.J., Jack of Panama City, Fla., and Roger of Leavenworth, Kansas. Two sisters, Mary Bernadette Donlon and Barbara Jane Donlon Huff; and a brother, Gerald B. Donlon, died previously. She was employed in the newspaper industry by the Chicago Daily News and the Chicago Sun-Times. She came to the Daily News in the late 1950s to be secretary to the features editor, William Kiedaisch, and later transferred to the Pulitzer Prize recipient, Michael Roykos' Office. She remained as Royko's secretary when the Daily News closed in 1978. At that time, she and Royko went to work at the Daily News' sister paper, the Sun-Times. She retired from the Sun-Times before Royko left in the 1980s to join the Chicago Tribune. "My friendship with Adrienne began in the 1960's at the Daily News," said Janet Cartwright Moran, an assistant to the News' society editor, Patricia Moore, and also a features writer. "She was the real thing, took life serious, but never failed to see the humor and always had a smile and energetic greeting to all she met along the way. Adrienne was godmother to my daughter, Molly, who felt special when Adrienne took her shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue. She treated all four of my daughters to 'beauty sessions' with fingernail polish, etc. Truly, I had some grand times with Adrienne, both in the newspaper business and later in life. She'll be very much missed." No Chicago service was planned for Miss Donlon. She requested her body be donated to medical research and then cremated. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at St Mary of the Snow R.C. Church in Saugerties.
