Rev. A. Rocco Leo KINGSTON / PEEKSKILL - Rev. Arthur Rocco Leo, 73 years old, formerly of the Kingston area, and a former parochial vicar at the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill, entered into eternal life on Nov. 25, 2013. Born on May 6, 1940 in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Louis Arthur & Eva Marie (nee Richer) Leo. Father Leo served in the United States Navy from 1964-1970. He graduated from St. John’s University in Queens, and then entered St. Joseph’s Seminary at Dunwoodie in Yonkers. On Nov. 16, 1985, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of New York. He was sent to serve the following parishes of the Archdiocese of New York: Our Lady of Mercy in Port Chester, St. Joachim’s Church in Beacon, St. Joseph’s Church in New Windsor, St. Catherine Laboure Church in Lake Katrine, St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston; and lastly he served from 1990 and retired at the Assumption Church in Peekskill. Father Leo was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Saugerties Council 4536 for 47-yrs and the Peekskill Council 462 while at Assumption Church; and a member of the 4th Degree Assembly #775; he was proud to be a member of the Order and was honored when asked to serve as chaplain for the Peekskill Columbiettes, when he was at Assumption Church. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy- St. Francis of Assisi Lodge in Beacon, and a member of the American Legion Post of Peekskill. He also served as chaplain for the Boys Scouts of America Westchester/Putnam Council from 1992. Father Rocco Leo is survived by his sister, Amber R. Hyatt and his sister-in-law, Jeannette Leo, and also his niece EvaMarie Leo. Father Rocco has touched so many people and made so many friends, he will be sorely missed and always remembered in our prayers. God Bless you Father Rocco Leo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by The Most Rev. Bishop Dominick Lagonegro, at Assumption Church in Peekskill on Friday, Nov. 29th at 10 a.m., followed by a private interment at a later date in Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.
