Donald R. Peters

Mount Marion, NY – Donald R. Peters, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Tenbroeck Commons Nursing Home in Lake Katrine. He was 99 years old.Born November 21, 1922 in Bellmore, Long Island, he was the son of the late William C. Peters and the late Florence Beh Peters. On October 2, 1948 he married the former Anne B. Brunk who pre-deceased him on September 2, 2012.Donald served during World War II on the Army Corps of Engineers. He graduated from Farmingdale Community College and owned and operated a Dairy Farm for many years in both Chatham, NY and Livingston, NY. On Long Island, he also worked as a fabricator for Grumman Aircraft and also worked for 10-12 years as an automobile mechanic.A life-long radio controlled model airplane enthusiast and a member of the local radio controlled airplane club in Saugerties, the local field on Sparling Road was named in his honor. Many of the model planes he built and designed ended up on display in museums, including the Smithsonian. Several of his models were also copied and built as full size replicas used at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome.Survivors include his children, Richard Peters and his wife Dorothy of Valatie, NY, Carolyn Schneider and her husband Rick of Jamison PA, Chris Peters and his fiancé Lori Pinto of Albany, NY, and Donald Peters and his wife Tearice of Colchester CT; his grandchildren Grant, Melissa, Emma, Amanda Timothy, Holly, Nathan, Stephanie, Ryan and Nicole; his great-grandchildren Emily, Cheyenne, Dakhota, Cory, Farryn, Adalynn, Jason, Caleb, Katie, Mia, Fallon, Chelsea, Rogue, Jacob, Camille, and Mila; his great-great-grandchildren Jaxon, Anakin, Evelyn, Finley, Onora, Damon, and Cyrus.A Memorial Gathering and Visitation will be held 12 Noon Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. in Saugerties.
