Eugene Newman Obituary

Eugene A. Newman, a longtime resident of Beacon, entered into rest on September 30, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 74 years old. Eugene was born on August 22, 1949 in Manhattan, the son of the late Edmund Newman and June Cooke Newman Baird. Eugene was drafted into the US Army in 1969 and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1971. He served in the Army 1 st Air Cavalry in Vietnam. Eugene was very proud of his military service and was honored to take part in an Honor Flight in 2019 to Washington, D.C. He enjoyed attending many veterans' events in both Dutchess and Ulster Counties with other veterans and friends. Eugene's life revolved around his beloved 1964 Pontiac GTO. His home is filled with trophies and awards from the many car shows he attended. He always looked forward to the next car show or cruise. Over many years, Eugene made numerous friends in the classic car circuit. Eugene retired from Metro-North Railroad where he was a Boom Truck Operator. Eugene is survived by his devoted significant other, JoAnne Carpino; his loving sister, Mary King and her husband, Dwight; his brother, Thomas Newman and his wife, Deborah; his brother, Glenn Baird and his wife, Kay; his nieces and nephews, Anne Stanton and husband, Cal, Jessica Hodge and husband, Mike, Thomas Newman and wife, Nicole, Allie Newman, Andrew Baird, Emily Baird, Nicholas Baird and other nieces and nephews; his many friends. In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Billy Newman. Family and friends will gather on Friday, October 6 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home led by Chief Warrant Officer 4 Robert E. Jordan, US Navy Retired. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, Beacon.
