Frederick Beckert Obituary

Frederick “Fritz” Beckert SAUGERTIES- Frederick “Fritz” Beckert, 79, of Elm St., died Saturday, April 22, 2017, at his residence. He was born in Kingston on Feb. 24, 1938 to the late Arthur and Anna O’Rourke Beckert. He was a graduate of St. Mary of the Snow School and Saugerties High School class of 1956. He then continued his education at Marist College as well as starting his career with IBM in Kingston. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club, retiring in 1992 with over 40 years of employment. Fritz loved Saugerties; he was a true Saugertiesian. In addition to IBM, he worked in the Village Water Department, groundskeeper at Mt. Marion Cemetery, and as the Cahill School crossing guard. He was a member of Saugerties Historical Society, Sons of the American Legion, and the Euchre League at Saugerties American Legion. Fritz’s faith was important to him being very active as a parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and bookkeeper for the St. Mary of the Snow Church and St. Joseph’s Church in Glasco. Fritz had a strong passion for athletics, coaching, umpiring/refereeing or score keeping many of the local leagues including CYO and Biddy League Basketball. He was treasurer for the American Legion Baseball Team and an S.A.A. player and board member, culminating with his induction into the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame. Fritz had many great travels with Pat, including Hawaii, Alaska, and vacations to tropical destinations. Depending on which season it was, Fritz enjoyed fishing for pike on Lake Champlain with his son and following the N.Y. Mets and the N.Y. Giants avidly. Fritz’s family meant the world to him. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the great love of his life, Patricia Hackett. Fritz’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. His children include a son, Peter (Carole) of St. Albans, Vt.; daughters: Lori (Frank) Beresheim of Saugerties, Ann Marie (William) McClelland of Waxhaw, N.C. and Jen (Michael) Arcadipane of Saugerties; grandchildren: Danielle (Brian), Matthew (Holly), Joseph (Halie), Daniel, Eric, Peter (Kevan), William, Michael, Sarah, Grace and Isabella; great-grandchildren: Nolan, Morgan, Miles, Lilah and Adrienne; cousins, Jean Campbell and Tom Hull; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Thomas and Donald. His Funeral Procession will form 9:15 a.m. on Thursday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Thence to the St. Mary of the Snow Church where a 10 a.m. mass will be officiated. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. My deepest sympathy to Pat and the entire Beckert family . My heart is heavy having heard the news that Fritz had passed .
Fritz and Pat were my neighbors on Elm St. many years ago . They were a kind and caring family . I could not have asked for a better family to be my next door neighbor. I remember a lot of snowstorms when my husband was away and Fritz came over to snowblow my driveway and walkway for me . He was a kind and considerate man who was always willing to help . A wonderful neighbor and friend . Hugs to all his family at this very sad time .
