Garth Warren Obituary

PORT EWEN- Garth W. Warren, 69, of Port Ewen, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, this Jan. 25, 2021. Garth loved his family, his faith, and his country. Garth was born Oct. 26, 1951, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the son of the late William and Doris Warren of Highland, N.Y. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beth O'Dell, and many family members who welcomed him into Heaven. Garth is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary. Together they raised three wonderful children: Justin of Nanuet, N.Y., Timothy (wife Holly) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Kiersten Emmi (husband Ross) of Liverpool, N.Y. His life's loves were his seven grandchildren: Emilia, Zoe, Liliana, Audrey, Justin, Evelyn, and Claire. He also had a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and his lap-cat, Kote-Boy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Esopus. Garth rarely passed up an opportunity to help others. During his life, he was an active member of his community. He was a Town of Esopus Town Councilman, a Town of Esopus Water Board Member, Boy Scout Webelos leader, and you would often see him snow-blow neighbors’ walkways. He helped with the gifted and talented students at Graves elementary school. He designed and built several props and sets for the drama class at Kingston High School under the late Mr. Scherrer. He liked to build and would often custom make things for his family. Garth met his wife, Mary, while attending college locally. Garth worked in construction after college, specializing in the fire sprinkler industry for over 30 years. In the 1990s, Garth and Mary started their own company, Fire-Guard, Inc., designing and installing commercial and residential fire sprinkler systems. Garth was very highly regarded in his field. Garth truly loved his country and was always incredibly thankful for the men and women who fought to protect and preserve this nation. He believed in working hard and the American dream - you could accomplish anything if you were willing to work for it and put in the effort. He believed in doing the right thing, even if it wasn’t easy. He loved the New York Football Giants and attended many games over the years. He enjoyed attending 3 Super Bowls and celebrating 2 NYG wins. Following his cancer diagnosis in 2008, Garth embraced the opportunity and blessings to spend even more time with his family and get to know and meet all of his grandchildren. His faith and great love for his family helped him through many challenges during his cancer journey. Garth learned to crochet and designed and created many hats, blankets, and toys for those grandchildren after being diagnosed. He loved to whistle and sing, never missing a chance to hold, dance, rock, and make up songs for his grandchildren and family. Garth took every opportunity to travel with his family, from sea to shining sea, visiting Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, the Alamo, Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains, and as many National Parks, landmarks, and Catholic shrines as they could experience. The family would like to extend their very deepest gratitude to Dr. Paul Donovan, Aida, all the nurses, other medical staff, Hudson Valley Hospice, and Father Marc Oliver for the compassionate care and treatment given to Garth during his journey. Arrangements are under the care of the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, www.GVVFH.com, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park. Services and burial will be private. A celebration of Garth’s life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, please hug a loved one and “so much more.” http://www.lastingmemories.com/garth-w-warren

Garth. You are a special man. I so loved seeing you in church, going to the back to say hello and giving you a big hug. Thank you for teaching me how to play the tuba, and for being a great person . I can not wait to see you again for that big hug. God Bless you and your family.
