Jacob Markiewicz Obituary
Born in Hanover, West Germany in 1946, he was the son of Henny (Rosenbaum) Markiewicz Simon of Colchester, CT and the late Abram Markiewicz. He worked on many projects as an industrial engineer at IBM from 1970-2000 in both the
Poughkeepsie and Kingston plants, most notably the first RS/6000 series "supercomputers".
He was a lifetime member of National Rifle Association, current member of the Morgan Hill Game Association in Hurley and former member of the First Capital Corvette Club in Kingston. He was a technology enthusiast, always keeping up on the latest computers and gadgets. He enjoyed going to the casino, watching movies and was helpful with financial advice to others, including wealth management and thrifty shopping practices. He always had a smile on his face and his special brand of humor at the ready. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Asa.
In addition to his mother and her companion, Ben Cooper, Jacob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Paula DuBosar Markiewicz, whom he married on April 8, 1972, his two sons, Lee Markiewicz and his wife Amy of Cypress, TX, Abram Markiewicz and his wife Alexa of Kingston, a sister, Jenny Rabinowitz and her husband Stuart of Glastonbury, CT and one grandson, Asa Markiewicz.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue, with Cantor Robert Cohen from Congregation Emanuel officiating.
Burial will occur the same day at approximately 3:00 PM at Ahavath Achim Cemetery on Taintor Hill Road in Colchester, CT.
Following the burial, mourners are then invited back to Congregation Ahavath Achim Synagogue (84 Lebanon Ave., Colchester) where a Minyan Service will be observed at 5 PM.
Thereafter, Shiva will commence at the home of his mother from Thursday evening through Friday evening, when Minyan will be observed at 7:30 PM Friday at the synagogue.
Following Shabbat, Shiva will resume Saturday evening through Sunday evening at home of his sister in Glastonbury with Minyan services at 8 PM both evenings at the residence.
In Kingston, shiva will resume at the residence of Abram and Alexa, Sunday, July 31st through Tuesday, August 2nd from 6:00-9:00 PM, with a minyan service at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg Pl SW, Washington, DC 20024 or Congregation Emanuel, 243 Albany Ave, Kingston, NY 12401.

Dear Paula and Family,
I met and grew fond of Jake some twenty plus years ago at IBM in Kingston. When IBM reorganized most of us were spread to the wind and I landed in Austin, TX.
After these so many years and miles, my memories of Kingston and particularly of Jake, endure. Even after all this time Jake occupies a big space in my heart. He was always at the center of a self made whirlwind, creative, active and willing to help and his help was invariably fun, entertaining and good spirited. Most importantly for me, he held his colleagues with respect and genuine care - truly a great guy, full of humanity and an example for us all. I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know him.
