I was a West Point band member, 1967-70. Age 24, now 78. I remember Sam Forte well. Gosh, always a smile on his face; just felt good to be around him on building 685, the band building at West Point. When it came time to perform band duties, Sam meant business. The band command, Col. William Schempf lived the guy.

Here I am years later, President of the West Point Band Alumni Association. I just learned of Sam´s passing 3/24/2022. A bit late in getting the news (my apology). Please accept our deepest regrets and condolences from the alums of the West Point Band Association. Sam´s life, a life well served. Thank You Sam. Amen

I have spent much of my life on a fool's journey, trying to emulate you. Your wit, humor, compassion for others. I owe my life to you on more than one occasion. I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people on earth, I had you as my father. I love you and will always miss you.
