I was a West Point band member, 1967-70. Age 24, now 78. I remember Sam Forte well. Gosh, always a smile on his face; just felt good to be around him on building 685, the band building at West Point. When it came time to perform band duties, Sam meant business. The band command, Col. William Schempf lived the guy. Here I am years later, President of the West Point Band Alumni Association. I have spent much of my life on a fool's journey, trying to emulate you. Your wit, humor, compassion for others. I owe my life to you on more than one occasion. I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people on earth, I had you as my father. I love you and will always miss you.

His passing is a loss to our community and nation. A great guy with a wonderful sense of humor and a true sense of giving to his community and nation. He is someone I will never forget.

I will miss your soft spoken sense of humor and being "up on the hill" for every ceremony and parade. Rest in peace Uncle Sammy.

Dear Pop Pop , I am going to keep singing to you and you will keep smiling down on me.. I know you help me want to be smart and stay in school and I love you for that. I´m going to miss Easter and our Christmas eves together I love you Pop Pop and will Miss you
