Kurt Lane Obituary

Kurt Robert Lane MT. TREMPER- Kurt Robert Lane, 30, of Mt. Tremper, N.Y., entered into God’s loving arms on Feb. 6, 2017. Born in Kingston, N.Y., on Aug. 24, 1986, he was the beloved son and only child of Nancy Ellen Sobolewski-Lane and Roy Kurt Lane. Kurt was a 2004 graduate of Onteora Central High School and of Ulster County Community College with a degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice. Kurt’s largest passion was that of being an avid weight lifter and body builder both of which he began at age 13. He had a special and tender love for all animals and birds, especially for his beloved chinchilla, “Chi-Chi Bean, “ and the family’s little Shih Tzu dog, Gracie. Kurt is survived by his forever and a day loving parents, Nancy and Roy, many uncles, aunts, and cousins, and dear friends. All funeral arrangements are private and under the care of Lasher Funeral Home, 100 Tinker St., Woodstock, N.Y., 12498. His parents respectfully suggest and would be most grateful that any expressions of sympathy be made in the form of a contribution in Kurt’s memory to the UlsterCounty S.P.C.A., 20 Weidy Rd., Kingston, N.Y., 12401.

Kurt was an awesome friend and had a kind soul. We became friend due to shared passion for weight lifting, the outdoors, and hunting. His parents are very kind people also, which is where Kurt got his kindness from. It is really strange not talking to him on a daily basis anymore, but I know he is looking down on us from heaven.

Kurt... I was so sad when I heard he had passed. I've known him for pretty much my entire adult life, and we've been good friends for about fifteen years. It's weird, knowing that I won't be able to call him anymore, or to get updates about his life quest for the best French onion soup. He's one of the few friends in my life who was really very supportive of my going to seminary, and I was always grateful for that. I was supposed to come out and visit this last summer... I regret that didn't happen. God willing, I'll see him again when the time comes. I sure hope there's good French onion soup in Heaven, or I'll be hearing about it! :) God love you all - he had troubles the last few years... but through it all, he knew he was loved. That's important. One day I hope to be able to say Mass in thanksgiving for his friendship.

I had the honor of working with Kurt when he was a student at SUNY Ulster. My heart broke when I heard the sad news of his untimely passing. I pray he is at peace, in the eternal house of our Good Lord. To his parents, I pray you find comfort in memories and you understand what a profound impact your only child had on those he met in his short yet meaningful life. I pray you find strength and our Good Lord blesses you both during this most difficult time and the days ahead. I pray for all of us, especially Kurt. God bless you and may Kurt's journey serve as reminder to each of us that tomorrow is not promised. I will never forget you Kurt.
