Larry L. Hoyt

Larry Lee Hoyt, 84, of Rhinebeck, NY passed away at home on February 18, 2022.Born in Beacon, NY, he was raised in Rhinebeck by the late Frank and Helen Burger. He attended Rhinebeck schools, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. A welder by trade, for many years he owned and operated a truck body business in Red Hook. Later, he went to school to become a teacher, and passed on his knowledge of welding to his students at Ulster County BOCES and for the NYS Dept. of Corrections, retiring in 2007. His interests included bowling, softball, golf, hunting and fishing, and he was a life member of Neighbor's Gun Club. In archery, he competed several times at the International Bow hunting Organization World Championships. He also played semi-pro football for the Twin County Vikings at the age of 45. Larry's true passion was racing, starting in the 1960's and he was still driving a vintage car at the age of 82. He drove midgets, stock cars, modified’ s, sprint cars and his latest racecar, a 1939 Chevy coupe. Larry leaves behind his great love, Marie Welch; his sister, the Reverend Margaret O. Williams of Humble, TX.; his two sons, Larry Hoyt, Jr. of Elizaville, NY and Wayne (Cindy) Hoyt of Port Ewen, NY; several grand-children and great grandchildren; as well as Marie's family who was his family, too. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lori Lee Hoyt; his granddaughter, Ayers Hoyt; his sisters Patricia Bentley, Eva Elwell and Barbara Miller; and one brother, George Hoyt. Larry was wonderfully cared for by his Hospice nurses, Kelly and Tim. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, 274 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or to the charity of one's choice. There will be no calling hours. Inurnment will take place in Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Larry's life will take place at a time and day to be announced.
