Marion Sturgeon Obituary

Marion Sturgeon WOODSTOCK- Marion Sturgeon; a long-time resident of Woodstock, passed away on May 19, 2013, from complications related to Cardiopulmonary Disease. A short story writer, artist and unique thinker, interested in literature, philosophy and cosmology, Marion will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She loved the early spring in Woodstock and was also particularly fond of lilacs. ( It must be confessed, that if given the opportunity to obscond with an armful of roadside lilacs, Marion would take it.) Born Marion Theresa Mc Gahan in the Bronx on June 26, 1929, she moved in 1959, with her husband, writer Theodore Sturgeon (1918-1985), to Woodstock, where she raised four children. Except for a period in the late 80's to early 90's, she would remain in Woodstock until her death. Marion received her BA from Suny New Paltz and earned her MFA from Bard, in creative writing. She was an active member of a number of Woodstock Community Organizations, over her lifetime, as well as a co-founder of the Senior Group, Staying in Place. Marion is survived by four children, Robin, Tandy, Noel and Timothy Sturgeon, their respective spouses, Kim Charnofsky, John Wolff, T.V. Reed and Judith Biewener: Seven Grandchildren, Benjamin Cameron, Jordan Nicolas and Jessamyn Marion lias Wolff, Hart Sturgeon-Reed; Maxine Olivia Biewener Sturgeon and Molly Bess and Jack Stanley Sturgeon. Contributions in lieu of flowers can go to Family of Woodstock or Staying in Place.
