Martin Kantor Obituary

NEW PALTZ- Dr. Martin E. Kantor, 91, died Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Woodland Pond in New Paltz. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Dr. Nathan & Sylvia Rosenthal Kantor. Martin was a prominent oral surgeon in Kingston, NY from 1958 until his retirement in 1996. He was a graduate of New York University and NYU College of Dentistry. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1953-1955, stationed in Washington DC and England. He did surgical residency training at Mount Sinai Hospital and Queens General Hospital, and post-Doctoral training at NYU. Martin was a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He served as President of the Medical Staff at Benedictine Hospital, President of Ulster-Green Dental Society, and was a Fellow of the American Society of Dental Anesthesiology. Martin was a longtime member and served on the Board of Directors of Temple Emanuel and Wiltwyck Golf Club. He also served on the Board of the Kingston, N.Y., chapter of the American Cancer Society. Martin and his wife Anita were longtime residents of Hurley, N.Y., and Martin served on the Zoning Board of Appeals in Hurley. He loved the area and was an ardent outdoorsman – he enjoyed fishing, skiing, tennis, and golf. In addition, he was passionate about music, gardening, bridge, and anything to do with his treasured family. Martin is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Anita Komaroff Kantor, whom he married on March 7, 1954; sons, Steven J. Kantor (Jane Ann) of Charlotte, Vt., Dr. Herbert M. Kantor (Maria) of Lenox, Mass., and David M. Kantor (Laura) of Sharon, Mass.; a brother, Dr. Fred Kantor (Linda) of Orange, Conn.; grandchildren, Nicole, Rachel, Shayna, Alec, Adam, Dean, Ethan, Jack, and Charlie Kantor. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. A Graveside Service was held at Montrepose Cemetery on Monday, March 22, 2021, with Rabbi Yael Romer of Congregation Emanuel, officiating.
