Michael Zollo

SAUGERTIES - Michael Zollo, 80, of Blue Mt. Rd., died Thursday, March 4, 2022 at his residence. He was born on August 28, 1941 in Brooklyn to the late A. Michael and Carmella Varricchio Zollo. Michael completed a bachelor's degree in elementary education from SUNY Oneonta, a master's degree from Columbia Teachers College in American history, and a certificate in education administration from SUNY Albany. He taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in a suburban school district near Schenectady, NY. He served as an elementary school principal in two NY districts, totaling 30 years of service. Retiring in 1993, Michael served as a student teacher supervisor, in a part time position, for some area colleges for another 20 years.Michael also volunteered at a local nursing home and taught religious education classes for many years at St. John the Evangelist Church, where he was a communicant. In the spirit of ecumenicalism Michael joined with his beloved wife, Sally Ann Lamouree Zollo and volunteered in various activities at the Blue Mt. Reformed Church to encourage stronger ties and understanding between Protestants and Catholics. He was also a member of the Blue Kats local service organization. Among Michael's interests were hiking, drawing, fly fishing, canoeing and playing guitar. He also was an avid reader.Michael was predeceased by his lovely and talented wife Sally Ann Lamouree Zollo. He is survived by a nephew, Richard Zollo; grand-niece Ashley Marie Zollo and a number of cousins. His Funeral Procession will form 9:15 am Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts. Saugerties. Procession will continue to the St. John the Evangelist Church where a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Burial will follow in the Blue Mt. Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-6 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. John the Evangelist Church.
