Michele Fox Obituary

Michele “Chele” Fox OLIVEBRIDGE- Michele “Chele” Fox, 69, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at her home in Olivebridge, N.Y. Born Jan. 1, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Thelma and Harmon Fischer and sister of the late Valerie Fischer. Michele grew up in Woodstock and graduated Onteora High School in 1964. Michele graduated as an RN from the Kingston Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 and married William Fox of Olivebridge that same year. She is survived by her four sons, Sean Fox, Michael Fox, Marcus Fox and Brett Fox; three daughters-in-law, Margaret Shlasko, Christine Fox and Jessica Wisneski; and four grandchildren, Riley, Ava, Henry and William. Michele was a farmer and Marine Corp wife for many years, living and raising children on the Fox dairy farm in Olivebridge. An avid horsewoman and animal lover she fostered a love of horses in her granddaughter, Ava. Michele trained many shelties in agility and as therapy dogs, volunteering with Hospice. Michele worked as a nurse at Kingston Hospital, Ashokan Field Campus, and Frost Valley. She never stopped being a nurse, being a caretaker of many through sickness and death throughout her life. Michele was an excellent craftswoman and incredible flower gardener. She helped raise her four beautiful grandchildren. She was a Verger and lay Eucharistic minister at her home church, The Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck, N.Y. She was very active as the leader of the youth acolyte program and played many roles there, including being a member of the Vestry, the Education for Ministry program and the Outreach Committee. Michelle was relentless, a fighter, and someone who cared deeply for her community. She saved countless lives, as a nurse, emergency caregiver, as a friend who was willing to have the hard conversations and get you through the tough times. She was an adventurer and a risk taker, creating memories for her children and grandchildren that could match no other. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Messiah, 6436 Montgomery St., Rhinebeck , with a reception to follow at the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be given to the Church of the Messiah and noted “Michele Fox Memorial Fund” or to any local food pantry.

This August it will be 10 years since Michelle Fox came upon me on the side of Tongore Road in Marbletown. She kept me breathing and alive until the medivac helicopter arrived. She passed away on August 7, 2016, 16 days short of exactly one year after saving my life on August 23, 2015. After 2 years of surgeries and a long recovery, I have been serving the community through a non-profit arts organization, and am alive to see my daughter get married this year. I am forever grateful to Michelle whose having been the kind of human being she was has made an immeasurable difference, her life made the rest of my life possible. I wanted to be at her funeral, I was not yet ready physically or emotionally, I want her family to know what she meant to me. we talked on the phone but I never got to thank her in person before she died.

Chele Fox had that blessed combination of wisdom and joy. I learned so much from her as she dealt with her health challenges over the years with grace and a positive attitude. Her appreciation of the bounty of her garden and her love for her animals were inspiring. She was a delightful neighbor to have for 30 years, and will be much missed.

All God's angels come to us disguised. Thank you Michele for saving my daughter Marcy's life one year ago. You have left a wonderful legacy of kindness and good deeds and that is all any of us can ask for.

I never met you but you probably saved my sisters life. Angels are sent when most needed and with purpose. A terrible bicycle accident, where this angel appeared and offered aid and comfort. Thank you for being you and being there. May the bells ring loudly as this angel gets her wings. I wish your entire family peace and comfort in knowing how many lives u must have touched with love. Forever grateful. Even though I never met you. Robin Bernstein sister to Marcy.
