Paul Giannuzzi Obituary

It is a great honor to celebrate the life and endless love of Paul Peter Giannuzzi. He was born June 1, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY as a first generation Italian immigrant. He moved to Kingston, NY in 1942 and then he moved to Hurley, NY in 1958 where he resided until 2014. He and his family loved to vacation to the seashores of Cape Cod. In later years he spent his time with his daughter and son-in-law in Mashpee, MA and with his son in Cedar Park, TX. Paul was an avid baseball player and golfer. He managed and played for the Kingston Braves for many years and through that experience, personally met many famous baseball players like Jackie Robinson and Joe DiMaggio. He even practiced catching for Satchel Paige. Paul also worked at IBM in Kingston for 35 years and later he worked at Bard College for 20 years. During his spare time, Paul became quite the trout fisherman, fishing in the upper mountain streams of the Ashokan’s. Paul had a love that could not be contained. You could find him laughing in the kitchen at family gatherings. He could make one helluva pizza, and his infamous potato salad always had a mysterious paprika “P” on it. Wonder who made that? He loved living life and if not fishing or golfing, you could find him relaxing outside in the sunshine with a good cigar and a cold Makers Mark. He was and is loved by many. He was predeceased by his brother, Lorenzo; his father, Mario; and his mother, Ermalinda. He is survived by a legacy of love: his wife of 65 years, Gloria; his sister, Anita; his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Don Teed; his son, Joseph; his six grandchildren, Tarah, Michael, Kierstin, Carter, Elena, and Stephanie; and his four great-grandchildren, Greyson, Emerson, Harrison, and Benson; and many nieces, nephews, and long-time friends. Paul passed peacefully at age 85 years young on Friday, February 11, 2022. He has left a lasting impact on us all. Until we meet again, God’s speed in the kingdom of Heaven. Condolences to Giannuzzi family. I did not know Paul well, but I know his son Joe, so there's no doubt he was a great man. I wish I could have made the wake, but learned about it too late.

To all of the family and loved ones of Paul I offer you my deepest sympathy.
I met Paul up in the Woodland Valley stream many many years ago.
We struck up a conversation that went on and on from one subject to another. I had know his brother Reggie (Lorenzo ) quite well and his sister Anita. So it wasn´t hard for us to rattle on. As the years went by I would see him in that area of Phoenicia, he loved it so.
I always extended and received a big wave from him no matter what the day was serving at that moment in time.
Rest In Peace Paul

The endless fond memories of Paul that I have comprise quite a library. His vegetable beef soup that I refused to ever rate as a score of 10, the marvel at struggling to even have a chance to beat him at golf with a two decade advantage or the admiration of his balance of fierce competiveness vs. gentle sportsmanship. Oh, and there's that reference to his Roman Nose that he took offense too & then chuckled it off. He is firmly filed away in my Close Friend folder. Attached is a photo of Anita & my last visit with Paul & Glo in Orlando at Patrick & Tara's place. Despite the lack of a proper ladel to manage the hand-crafted sauce, we had a swell time. Gloria is much more lovely, but I wish I had a pic of Paul & me sharing the same oversized chair.

Cheers to Paul P. Giannuzzi! (That's P for potato salad)
