Alfred Pirro Obituary

Alfred J. Pirro ScotiaAlfred J. Pirro, 90, died peacefully on Friday at the Glendale Home. Al was born in Manhattan on February 16, 1924, a son of the late Ciero and Sparanza Napolitano Pirro. He honorably served in the US Army Air Force, with the Flying Tigers, flying missions in Indonesia and China. After his military service, Al attended SUNY, Plattsburg Teachers College, where he received his bachelor's degree and subsequently a master's degree in education. Al taught at Pashley Elementary School in Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, retiring after many years of personal dedicated service. He was an avid swimmer, enjoyed reading and was a member of the YMCA in Schenectady. A special thank you to Al's friends whose company he enjoyed during their lunch gatherings and the staff of the Glendale Home, for their kind and compassionate care. Al was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Dorothy Morrison Pirro on June 10, 2005; a brother, Rico Pirro; granddaughter, Tiffany Pirro; and brothers and sister-in-law, Don Cleremont, Robert Morrison and Evelyn and Fred Greenleaf. He is survived by his loving children, Doreen Hardy of California and Michael and Donna Pirro of Scotia; grandchildren, Jasmine Hardy, Joseph Pirro and Emily Pirro; brother, Severino Pirro; brothers and sisters-in-law, Janice Cleremont, Joan Morrison, Dr. James and Kathy Morrison and Thomas and Mary Morrison; and a cousin, Marie Sorrocco. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Services will be held Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Street and then to St. Joseph's Church, Scotia, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Wednesday morning from 8 to 9 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Alfred's memory to St. Joseph's Church, 231 Second St., Scotia, NY 12302 or to Residents Encounter Christ, Prison Ministry, PO Box 14474, Albany, NY 12212.
