Amelia Scardino Obituary

Amelia L. Scardino, 89, passed into the arms of her Lord on Saturday, December 4, 2021. Amelia was born in Schenectady, a daughter of the late Severino and Assunta Caporossi Ciarmiello. She attended Nott Terrace High School, graduating with the class of 1951. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Mario P. Scardino, Sr. whom she married on October 14, 1951, in Schenectady. Amelia, who was also known to others as Amy, Mil, and Mimi, was employed by General Electric before having children. She then became a homemaker. After her children were grown, Amelia worked at the Schenectady County Department of Social Services SJTA (Schenectady Job Training Agency) until her retirement. Amelia received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1986. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Rexford. She was known as a “prayer warrior, and regularly hosted neighborhood Bible studies. One of her favorite sayings was: “If you were the only one left on earth, Jesus would go to the cross for you. Amelia loved to cook delicious meals; nobody ever left the Scardino table hungry. Amelia loved spending time with her family. Her favorite times were just talking and laughing with her family around the dinner table. She is survived by her loving children, Mario Scardino, Jr. and his wife, Debra of Duanesburg, Mark Scardino of Clifton Park, Michael Scardino and his wife, Joann of Bonita Springs, FL, and Mary Jo Sullivan and her husband, Mark of Colonie; adoring grandchildren, Eric, Jennifer, Vicky Jo, Christopher and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, and Liam; and many nieces and nephews. Amelia was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Mario, who died in 2011. She was also predeceased by her brothers John Ciarmiello and Salvatore Ciarmiello, and sisters Louise DeFelice, Mary Mazzone, Ida Ciarmiello, and Anna Hock. Services will be held Thursday at 12 noon at Faith Baptist Church, 11 Glenridge Road, (corner of Bradt Road) Rexford. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville. Relatives and friends may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Thursday morning from 9-11 a.m.

MJ, Mark & Family! It has been a tremendous privilege to spend time with your mother through the pandemic: Rosary, sing-alongs, BINGO and of course, BAKING! Here is Mimi at one of our make-a-Pizza parties. I will miss her dearly. Thank you for sharing your wonderful mother with us at Peregrine Sr. Living. Loving thoughts to you, Susan Dent
