Anneliese Splittgerber Obituary

Anneliese H. Splittgerber, 85, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Anneliese was born on July 6, 1931 in Lubz, Germany and was the daughter of the late Wilhelm H. and Minna (Seele) Ruhe. She was the youngest of 13 and was predeceased by her siblings. When she first came to the United States as a young woman, she was employed as a nanny for the Freihofer family. She then married her husband, John W. Knight and had two loving daughters, Melissa (Jim) Keegan and Andrea (Kurt) Husselbeck. John passed away in 1966 and then she married Erwin H. Splittgerber in 1972 and became a stepmother to Erwin Jr., Howard, Gloria and Martha. In addition to her husband and her children, Anneliese is survived by her cherished granddaughter, Kesandra Husselbeck; her step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. After her family was raised, she returned to the work force as a clerk for the City Mission in Schenectady until she retired. She was an avid quilter, a huge NY Giants fan and enjoyed bowling. She also loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She was also a member of the Cobblestone Reformed Church in Rotterdam and was a former member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Schonowe Fire Company. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14th, at 12 noon at the Cobblestone Reformed Church, 118 Putnam Road, Rotterdam. A calling hour will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the church. Inurnment will be held in the spring at Viewland Cemetery, Rotterdam.
