Arthur D. Tessitore

Arthur D. Tessitore, 84, passed away at Ellis Hospital on Monday March 2, 2009. Born in Schenectady on April 9, 1924, he was the son of the late Anthony and Antoinette Tessitore. Art was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. He enlisted in the Navy in February 1943 serving in the Pacific and France during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning home, Art went to work at General Electric and retired in 1984 after 37 years with the company. Art was very active for many years with the Bellevue Little League. In addition to his parents, Art was also predeceased by his brother, Dominick Tessitore; and two sisters, Louise Tulio and Lucille Karandy. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Barbara Cowie Tessitore; his three stepsons, John DeCarlo of Santa Monica, CA, Steven (Colleen) DeCarlo of Reisterstown, MD, and Jeffrey (Ysset) DeCarlo of Miami, FL; three step granddaughters, Darby and Casey DeCarlo and Stefany Hidalo; his brother, Robert (Barbara) Tessitore; sister-in law, Lottie Tessitore and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Norma Cowie. Art is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives are invited to call Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin Friday, 9:15 a.m., at the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 828 Eastern Ave., Schenectady. A 12:30 p.m. service in the committal shelter at Saratoga National Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Dayhaven, Schaffer Heights, 107 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY 12308 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY 12206.
