Catherine Witmer Obituary

Catherine E. Witmer, 96, of Schenectady, passed peacefully Sunday, October 25, 2009, at Ellis Hospital. She was a resident of Kingsway Arms Nursing Facility after leaving her home on Consaul Road in Niskayuna, which was built by her husband. Catherine was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her home was always open to family and friends and was the place that everyone gathered for the holidays; a place that always felt like home to everyone. She was active in several bowling leagues, was an expert seamstress and was always willing to patiently teach you her skills. One of her favorite pastimes was to make beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. She also loved animals, especially her two cats and her great-grand dog who often kept her company. In addition to her infant daughter, Catherine and husband, Roland, she was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Croote and brother, Clinton Weast. She is survived by sons, Roland Witmer of Schenectady, James Witmer and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann of West Springfield, MA; grandchildren, Dottie Marie Harris and husband, Richard of Niskayuna, Donna Czeremcha and husband, Edward of West Springfield, MA, Jamie and John Witmer, all of West Springfield, MA and was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Angela and Gina Czeremcha. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the DeLegge Funeral Home, 1346 Chrisler Avenue. The funeral home will be open Thursday at 12 noon for those who wish to attend. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery. Contributions may be sent to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady 12308.
