Charles DeVito Obituary

Charles D. DeVito, Jr. Mechanicville - Charles D. DeVito, Jr, of Grand Street, died peacefully in the comfort of his home, on March 28, 2024, after a several month long battle with illness.
Born in Troy on May 20, 1943, son of the late Charles "Flip" and Mary Izzo DeVito, he was a 1961 graduate of Mechanicville High School.
Chuck proudly served as a member of the US Army National Guard for 6 years. He began his work career at the WestVaco Paper Co and later moved on to Borden Foods before settling in at GE Silicone Products Division, Waterford, where he was employed for over 20 years before retiring in 2003.
Chuck enjoyed spending his free time around town with lifelong Mechanicville friends. He was a member of the American Legion, Mechanicville Athletic Club, Mechanicville Golf Club, and in his younger years could often be found spending time in one of his favorite spots, the former Columbia Club. An excellent pool player, he also enjoyed playing darts and various card games. Chuck was a diehard NY Yankees fan, looked forward to summers at the Saratoga Race Course and also enjoyed Syracuse Orange sports. He also loved music and spent many years building an extensive record collection. He was always proud to challenge that "unless you know someone else, I'm the only person ever to receive two autographs from Frank Sinatra", one of his all-time favorites. While retired, Chuck spent several winters in the warmer weather of Myrtle Beach enjoying golf, sunrises and ocean views from his balcony, and passing time with his "winter friends".
Chuck's children and grandchildren were front and center in his life. He looked forward to attending the athletic and academic events that his sons were involved in, often changing his work schedule to make sure he could be there. This started in their youth, where he was active as a CYO and Little League coach for their teams. He was also a very proud grandfather and uncle who delighted in following all that they did.
Survivors include his four children: Michael (Elissa) DeVito of Preston, CT; Charles (Tanya) DeVito of Stillwater, Jeffrey (Charlene) DeVito of Clemmons, NC; and Paul DeVito of Mechanicville, grandchildren: Samantha, Emily, and Alexa DeVito, Coby and Gracie DeVito, and Arabella, Joseph, Vincent and Derek DeVito, sisters Lucille (David) Krahmer and Anne Marie (Fred) Wuenschel, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Funeral Mass at All Saints on the Hudson Church (St. Paul's), 121 N Main St., Mechanicville, will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Paul's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicville Area Community Services Center in memory of Charles D. DeVito.

Chuck and I were friends for many years! We coached each other´s sons for many years and we made numerous trips to Yankee games with our sons! We coached together in the old CYO basketball at Assumption Church! He was a great friend and we made numerous trips to Yankee Stadium with our sons! Occasionally sharing refreshments at Matteo´s with pizzas! A true and loyal friend that I will truly miss!
